Welcome to the new Horton Triplet blog! For anyone who may be new to our story, Kyle and Miranda Horton (aka Mommy and Daddy) married in 2000 and then spent the next 8 years working their way through medical school and residency first in Macon, Georgia, and then in Greenville, South Carolina.
Just before they were to leave Greenville for Kyle to start his fellowship in Charleston in 2008, they were happy to discover Miranda had a positive pregnancy test. They decided to schedule one visit to the OB/Gyn in Greenville before the big move. On the day they sold their house to move to Charleston, Kyle and Miranda were shocked to discover that on the ultrasound there were not one, not two, but THREE babies on the way!
After walking around in utter shock for almost 2 weeks, they finally told their families and then the world that triplets were on the way! Miranda endured a difficult and short pregnancy. She spent the last 5 weeks on home bed rest with a terbutaline pump ("Terbie") and then delivered at 30 weeks 4 days when she could stretch no more. A team of over 20 people helped deliver and stabilize the triplets at MUSC on December 6, 2008.
Lillian Ruth (Lillie Ruth) weighed 3lb 5oz and was 15in long. James Ellis (Ellis) weighed 3lb 14oz and stretched to a whopping 18inches. Emmeline Randall (Emmeline or Emme) was the "runt" at 3lb even and 14in. They came home at 3 (Lillie Ruth), 4 (Emme), and 5 weeks (Ellis the "whimpy white boy") on caffeine and apnea/bradycardia monitors and weighing about 4-5 pounds. Kyle and Miranda knew it would be hard, but nothing prepared them for life with triplets. The first six months were, by far, the hardest. Each new stage has brought more and more fun but new challenges too.
When Kyle finished his fellowship God opened doors for Kyle and Miranda to find jobs in Greenville. So, the family packed up and headed back to Greenville. The kids have thrived here and love having more space and a yard more amenable to outdoor play. Miranda was just thankful to hear that "you would never know they were preemies" from the pediatrician at their last well-child check. Certainly there have a lot of bumps in the road to this point, but God has been faithful. Praise the Lord!
We hope you enjoy following along with their latest adventures.
Beautiful family. I met Kyle and Miranda at a family reunion in GA before all the babies came along. Now those babies will be 8 tomorrow.
